The article outlines the pedagogical and philosophical views of Hryhorii Skovoroda, the idea of a human person, the concept of "happiness" for man and enlightenment. With the help of archival materials, the memory of the outstanding figure of the XVIII century H. Skovoroda was discovered by the researcher of his legacy D. Bahaliy in the 20's of the 20th century. Also, in the 40's document, on the basis of which the name of H. Skovoroda was given to educational institutions and the provision of scholarships to students, was restored.
